An SRO crowd at this evening’s Knights of the Marketing Roundtable program heard PR luminary Sam Fine and his panel dissect buzz-marketing strategies for small product, service and nonprofit organizations. The Q&A went wide, participants peppering the panel with issues from TV and Web 2.0 to sucking up to journalists and bloggers.
Top story was Liz Nowland-Margolis’s recounting of the prom invitation painted on a lacrosse team’s buttcheeks. Self-proclaimed old-timer Ron Hingst told a familiar anecdote about multipage PR’s for the latest Burroughs computer. I think we actually tacked his copy and photos (leggy secretaries toting greenbar, looking lovingly at the executive who greenlighted the new mainframe, while the lowly programmers look on from the sidelines) to the wall in the Burroughs Corporate Systems Management office.
Unfortunately, as so often happens at KOMR, the Q&A devolved into grandstanding, with audience members making “me-too” and”hire-me” comments, rather than asking intelligent questions. I guess it’s the room.
