Ed concocted a startup cafe crawl:
- Get up early and hit Zola’s for funding – that’s where the VC’s and angels eat breakfast.
- Head to SweetWaters to network for your BizDev talent.
- Thence to Primo to recruit developers.
- Lunch at Vinology, home to the marketing-types.
What, no beer? “Leopold’s closed.”
Undaunted, I headed to Fraser’s Pub – that other Wi-Fi-equipped watering hole – this one on Ed’s side of town. I’m nursing a pint and checking my email when I hear some boisterous bankers talking about seed funding on the other side of the dart board. Peering around, I caught uber-connector John Fovenesi and his Bank of Ann Arbor drinking buddy conspiring to bring yettanudda hot-yet-socially-conscious-tech-startup to town.
So I plopped myself down to join the conspiracy. John’s done it again, this time aligning the planets around the unemployed-single-mother dilemma – daycare, transportation, financial counseling – if John were a CAA agent (and who’s to see he’s not?), he’d call it “packaging.”
Will it play in Ypsilanti? Perhaps workingclass Fraser’s is putting proletariat mojo in the beer. I’ll have to ask Ed to add it to his startup crawl.
